Wisconsin authorities offered limited insight into the motivation behind Natalie Rupnow’s murderous rampage at Abundant Life Christian School.

Rupnow shot and killed a teacher and fellow student Monday at the Wisconsin school. The 15-year-old shooter injured six others before fatally shooting herself. Two of those injured remain in critical condition.

Noting that there are “always signs of a school shooting before it occurred,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said Tuesday that authorities are still looking into Rupnow’s online activity leading up to the incident and are trying to determine whether she was bullied.

“Identifying a motive is our top priority, but at this time, it appears that the motive is a combination of factors,” Barnes concluded.

The chief did indicate that Rupnow did not appear to specifically target anyone at the school.

“Everyone was put in equal danger,” he said.

Barnes also addressed an online document that may have been written by Rupnow that is circulating online. If authentic, the document could provide critical insight into her motivation.

Titled “War Against Humanity,” the text states the author had “grown to hate people and society” and called their parents “scum.”
