Sen.-elect Bernie Moreno (R-OH) underscored the “key difference” between President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees and those of the current administration, stressing that Trump needs “his leadership team” confirmed by the Senate.

Ahead of the confirmation vote for Trump’s nominees, Moreno said he would “absolutely” support all of the nominations for Trump’s Cabinet, and issued a call for his fellow senators to “stay united” in the confirmation vote. When reflecting on President Joe Biden’s Cabinet and how it differs from Trump’s nominations, the incoming Ohio senator noted that despite Biden’s nominees being “objectively terrible” at their job, they never faced any true “accountability” for their actions.

“The difference is with President Trump, if any of his nominees get confirmed and don’t do the job they’re supposed to do, President Trump will replace them,” Moreno said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “That’s what we have to remember. Look, he got the mandate, he got the message from the American people to go out there and get his agenda completed, our job is to give him his leadership team. Let’s get that done quickly and efficiently so we can get to the business of solving the problems that Americans put us in office to get done.”

Moreno also detailed how the 2024 election was about “open borders and high prices,” and called for Congress to assemble a bill that addresses these topics “immediately,” arguing it should take no later than February 2025. He added that the idea of Washington D.C. taking “forever” to address issues is no longer present, and pushed for the nation to achieve its mandate set before them by voters.

“We get a little muscle memory, we learn how to win, and I think we get some Democrat support,” Moreno said. “I think you’ll be surprised how many Democrats will cross over once they see the successes that we can deliver for the American people.”

In regards to concerns over whether incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) will work cooperatively with Trump, Moreno expressed optimism that Thune will do so. He cited how Thune has “a great relationship” with the incoming president, and that the Republican Party will be able to bring people together under its “positive America First agenda.”

Several Republican senators have also expressed confidence that Trump’s Cabinet nominees will get confirmed, including some controversial picks like Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. On Saturday, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) argued Hegseth has been “killing it” with his meetings with lawmakers ahead of the confirmation vote, and that he might even be able to win over some Democratic voters once his confirmation vote arrives.

Likewise, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has spoken favorably of both former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence, and Kash Patel, his nominee for director of the FBI, calling the former “a patriot” and the latter “the right man for the job.”
