Former Attorney General Bill Barr continued to defend his former boss, former President Donald Trump from allegations that he gave out orders to kill his political rivals.

Barr appeared on CNN’s The Source on Friday to respond to former Trump staffer Alyssa Farrah Griffin’s claim that he was in the room when then-President Trump suggested an anonymous person who leaked information about his administration should be killed. This was in reference to the story of Trump going to a bunker when the 2020 protests over George Floyd broke out near the White House.

“I remember him being very mad about that, I actually don‘t remember him saying executing, but I wouldn‘t dispute it. The president would lose his temper, say things like that. I doubt he would have actually carried it out,” Barr said. “I think people sometimes took him too literally and he would say things like similar to that in occasions to blow off steam but I wouldn‘t take them literally every time he did it.”

As his Attorney General at the time, Barr claimed he was able to talk some sense into Trump during such occasions. Barr recalled the times Trump lost his temper in social media rants up until he was removed from Twitter and Facebook as examples of the president losing his temper.

“Having worked for him and seen him in action, I don‘t think he would actually go and kill political rivals and things like that,” Barr said.

Barr recently endorsed Trump ahead of the 2024 election despite his disagreement about how his former boss handled the 2020 election loss. The former attorney general ultimately found there was no significant election interference that would have impacted the results, which caused a rift between him and his former boss.

“I was very disappointed that this country has stuck with this choice, between two people who, I don’t think, either of them should be president of the United States, but given that binary choice, I feel I have to choose Trump,” Barr said on the program.

Trump thanked Barr for his endorsement, but still referred to him as “Weak, Slow Moving, Gutless, and Lazy” in a Truth Social post.
