Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) pushed back against members of his own party for mocking President Donald Trump’s ceasefire deal with Iran on Wednesday.

A common saying Trump’s opponents have been mocking him with is the word “TACO,” an acronym for “Trump always chickens out.” This taunt was used when Trump reached a two-week ceasefire deal with Iran hours after the president threatened that “a whole civilization will die” if a deal was not reached, with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel saying Tuesday marked the “Taco Tuesday of all Taco Tuesdays.”

Fetterman said the U.S. military made “profound” accomplishments against Iran’s military and said he supports addressing the “47-year war crime” committed by Iran.

“We’re not even in for 40 days yet, so where are we at right now?” Fetterman said on Fox News’s Hannity. “Yes, it’s like if you make these kinds of ‘let’s go for the 25th Amendment,’ and then we have ceasefire, then it’s like, ‘TACO, TACO, TACO.’ You can’t have it both ways, so where we are, it’s strange to be gleeful, gleeful that we still have to accomplish some things and make these kinds of statements.”

Over 30 Democrats, as well as former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, called on the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment against Trump over his threat against Iran before the ceasefire deal.

“I’m old enough to remember we used to root for our military, and we would all agree that Iran is the world’s leading terrorism underwriter,” Fetterman said. “I mean, they are part of the evil empire. Remember what Iran’s done. They underwritten 10/7, they killed thousands of Americans over the near five decades. Where we are right now, yeah, we have to finish it out without a doubt. Where we are now, as the first president to actually do something about it, and remind that’s why I’ll be the only Democrat that supports this.”

The ceasefire is set to last until April 21. Vice President JD Vance, who called this deal between the U.S. and Iran a “fragile truce,” is set to lead peace talks with Iran in Pakistan this Saturday. He will be joined by U.S. special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

OIL AND GAS PRICES WILL BE LOWER BUT STILL ELEVATED

Fetterman has broken from his party on a variety of issues. Washington Examiner senior columnist Salena Zito said it is “very difficult”  to find any momentum against Fetterman “outside of the far Left” last month. Fetterman notably broke with his party over the Department of Homeland Security shutdown.

The Washington Examiner has contacted Fetterman’s office for comment.
