Vice President Kamala Harris continued her media blitz this week, appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night in an attempt to appeal to voters.

The comedian began the episode of his talk show with a parody of the introduction 60 Minutes did in its interview with Harris on Monday night.

“Good evening,” Colbert began. “It has been a tradition here at The Late Show since yesterday that the major party candidates sit down with me for an interview in October. We invited Kamala Harris to be our guest this evening, and she accepted. That interview, in a moment. In the interest of fairness, we also invited former President Donald Trump to go f**k himself. He declined our offer.”

Colbert’s monologue established any lack of political objectivity in the forthcoming chat with the Democratic nominee for president.

He discussed Harris’s appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, mentioned some of Harris’s political positions on topics such as abortion, and then fact-checked some of Trump’s recent claims about hurricane recovery efforts. Colbert then continued with a fair amount of insults directed toward former President Donald Trump before introducing Harris – nearly 18 minutes after the show started.

After some quick small talk, the two sat down, and Colbert offered to drink a beer with Harris.

“When you first became the nominee and named Tim Walz as your vice president nominee, people were calling it the vibe election. The vibes were all good,” Colbert said. “But elections, I think, are won on vibes because one of the old saws is they just want somebody they can have a beer with. So would you like to have a beer with me? So I can tell people what that’s like?”

Harris laughed and then agreed to have a drink with him.

“We asked ahead of time because I can’t just be giving a drink to the vice president of the United States without asking,” Colbert said. “You asked for Miller High Life. You got a Miller High Life.”

“Okay, the last time I had beer was at a baseball game with Doug,” Harris declared, referring to her husband, Doug Emhoff.

Harris and Colbert said “cheers,” clinked their beer cans together, and took a sip.

“That tastes like the beautiful city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” Colbert said.

“The champagne of beers,” Harris said enthusiastically before laughing.

“There you go,” Colbert said.

The two talked about the presidential campaign and Harris briefly discussed her political positions and what she would do if elected president. But then, as many expected, Harris and Colbert criticized Trump. This theme continued throughout the exchange between the two.

Later, Harris inferred Trump was “a loser” and shared a supposed anecdote of an interaction she had with someone at one of her political rallies who cited factually manipulated claims regarding the economy and the country’s loss of jobs and manufacturing plants when Trump was in office.

“You know, I’m going to tell you what some of the people in my rallies, quite a few people show up, by the way, you know, when you lost millions of jobs, you lost manufacturing, you lost automotive plants, you lost the election. What does that make you? A loser,” Harris recalled.

“This is what somebody at my rallies said,” the vice president stated. “I thought it was funny.”

“It’s accurate. It’s accurate,” Colbert exclaimed.

“This is what happens when I drink beer,” Harris quipped.
