Former Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney announced her endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Wednesday.

“I don’t believe we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” Cheney said during a speech at Duke University in North Carolina.

“And as a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” she added.

Cheney lost her congressional seat following her aggressive effort to push for the impeachment of former Donald Trump.

In a 2023 interview with CBS, Cheney slammed Trump running again for president and claimed the United States was “sleepwalking into dictatorship.”

The Wyoming Republican had previously called Harris “to the left of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren” in a Fox News interview.

Her own social media post in 2020 ripping Harris for being a “radical liberal” also resurfaced following her endorsement for the Democratic nominee on Wednesday.

“Kamala Harris is a radical liberal who would raise taxes, take away guns & health insurance, and explode the size and power of the federal gov’t. She wants to recreate America in the image of what’s happening on the streets of Portland & Seattle. We won’t give her the chance,” Cheney said on X, formerly Twitter.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) responded to Cheney’s endorsement during an event in Arizona on Wednesday night with the conservative youth group Turning Point USA.

“The next presidency of Donald Trump will make sure people like Liz Cheney are laughed out of the Oval Office instead of rewarded. This is a person whose entire career has been about sending other peoples’ children to fight and die for her military conflicts and her ridiculous ideas that somehow we were going to turn Afghanistan into a thriving liberal democracy and for that, Liz Cheney was willing to kill thousands of her children,” Vance said in front of a crowd alongside conservative leader Charlie Kirk on stage.

He continued, “Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney make interesting partners. They get rich when America’s sons and daughters go off to die. They get rich when America loses wars instead of wins wars. They get rich when America gets weaker in the world.”
