Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) blasted supporters of former President Donald Trump, who she blamed for threatening the future of the country.
In an appearance on MSNBC, Waters repeated and expanded upon earlier rhetoric, warning of Trump-supporting “domestic terrorists” committing mass violence after the 2024 election.
“I’m worried that he’s so divisive, and that he’s talking about retribution, and they’re talking about revenge, and I think that that’s dangerous. He’s even mentioned the Civil War, at one point, talked about there will be bloodshed,” Waters said, apparently referring to misconstrued remarks when Trump warned of the decimation of the auto industry, which he described as a “bloodbath.”
“I am going to spend some time with the criminal justice system, with the justice system, asking them, ‘Tell us, what’s going on with the domestic terrorists? Are they preparing a civil war against us? Should we be concerned about our safety? What is he doing with this divisive language? It is dangerous,” Waters said.
The California Democrat didn’t specify whether she was referring to Trump supporters broadly as domestic terrorists or only certain groups. In previous related remarks, she has alleged that Trump is connected with many unnamed right-wing “organizations” plotting election violence.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Waters for comment.
She went on to bash the former president more holistically, saying he was an opponent of democracy and “in love with Putin and Russia and Kim Jong Un and all of that.”
“And so, it’s not just that he’s a criminal,” Waters said. “This is a man who disrespects the Constitution and democracy, and we have got to find out what they’re doing, as domestic terrorists tried to take over the government on Jan. 6.”
Her remarks are consistent with previous comments in which she has routinely warned that many of Trump’s supporters are “domestic terrorists” planning violence around the 2024 election.
“I’ll tell you what I’m going to do. I’m going to ask the Justice Department, and I am going to ask the president to tell us what they are going to do to protect this country against violence if [Biden] loses,” Waters said in May.

“I want to know about all of those right-wing organizations that [Trump] is connected with who are training up in the hills somewhere and targeting what communities they are going to attack. We need to know now, given that he is telling us there is going to be violence if he loses. We need to know what his plan is and how we are going to be protected,” the congresswoman said.
Waters gained attention during Trump’s presidency for urging aggressive, personal attacks against the administration, urging supporters to harass Trump officials in public spaces. She celebrated his conviction last week.
“Hallelujah!!! My predictions came true! I predicted three years ago at a speech with the Human Rights Campaign that Stormy Daniels would be the one to get Trump, my faith in the criminal justice system has been strengthened!” she said in a post on X.
