Robert F. Kennedy Jr. denied the “wild and inaccurate claims” from his opponent, former President Donald Trump, that he is a Democrat plant.

Kennedy took to X on Saturday following Trump’s allegations posted to Truth Social on Friday. Trump alleged the independent candidate is “a Radical Left Liberal who’s been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the History of the United States, get Re-Elected” and a vote for him would be a “WASTED PROTEST VOTE.”

“When frightened men take to social media they risk descending into vitriol, which makes them sound unhinged. President Trump’s rant against me is a barely coherent barrage of wild and inaccurate claims that should best be resolved in the American tradition of presidential debate,” Kennedy said. “President Trump, who has proven himself the most adept debater in modern American political history, should not be panicked to meet me on that stage.”

While President Joe Biden and Trump have teased out a debate between themselves, Kennedy has largely been left out of any promises to debate. The Commission on Presidential Debates has a standard for independent candidates to qualify, which includes 15% of support in national polls and being on enough ballots to be statistically possible to win the election.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.

The Kennedy campaign has claimed to be eligible for the ballots in Nevada, New Hampshire, Hawaii, and Utah. These states have a combined electoral vote of 18, a far cry from the 270 required to win.

Kennedy switched from the Democratic ticket midway through his campaign to become an independent candidate. Before launching his campaign, Kennedy worked as an environmental lawyer.
