The National Republican Congressional Committee will host its spring dinner on April 23, and the event will feature Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) as the headlining speaker.
The dinner is projected to be the largest fundraising event for House Republicans so far this year. Every House Republican leader is expected to attend.
“I’m excited to join the incredible Republican leadership team as they work tirelessly to defend freedom and expand majorities in the House,” Scott told the Washington Examiner. “This November, Republicans will be picking up seats in the House and Senate, and sending President Donald Trump back to the White House.”
Scott, who has served as a senator since 2013, is considered to be one of presumptive GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s top contenders for vice president. While Scott’s own presidential bid failed, in recent months, he has been heavily campaigning for Trump at rallies and in interviews. As the only black Republican senator, Scott has also been working to gain and win influence with black voters.
“Tim Scott came from humble beginnings, but through hard work and perseverance he became a leader in our conservative movement,” NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson said. “His story is an inspiration, and I am thrilled he is headlining this important fundraising event to grow the House majority.”
