Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), are heading to Michigan for their first rally together as the 2024 Republican ticket.

Trump supporters will gather at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. It comes as the state will be hotly contested between Biden and Trump’s campaigns, with Trump winning the state in the 2016 electoral college but losing the state to Biden in 2020.

Saturday’s rally is notable for being Trump’s first campaign rally after he narrowly survived an assassination attempt on July 13. The visit to Butler, Pennsylvania, saw the former president move his head slightly just before gunshots were heard, who then hit the ground before he got back up and raised his fist to his supporters.

The Michigan rally will also be Trump’s first rally since the 2024 Republican National Convention, where he was named the party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

The event has been promoted on the Trump campaign’s website as well as Van Andel Arena’s, both of which state that people can register two tickets per mobile number. Tickets are also only available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Trump has made several stops in Michigan this year to win the state back after losing it in 2020, with his most recent visit taking place last month. The former president was also in Grand Rapids in April, during which he criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of the southern border and claimed that the president “brought the carnage and chaos and killings from all over the world” and turned every state into a border state.

Vice President Kamala Harris was also just in Michigan to promote Biden’s campaign, during which she called for unity in the wake of Trump’s assassination attempt and asked people to engage in “a robust debate” on political issues.
