President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social about the sermon given by Episcopal Washington Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde at Tuesday’s inaugural prayer service.

Budde was critical of the president and his agenda during the church service, which is traditionally held at Washington’s National Cathedral the Tuesday after the president’s inauguration. She called on Trump to show “mercy” on people she claimed were living in fear because Trump was president.

Early Wednesday morning, Trump responded in kind.

“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” said the president. “She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart.”

Budde’s statements focused on several hot-button political matters that mostly align with left-wing political viewpoints. Her sermon focused on subjects ranging from LGBT issues to illegal immigration.

“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared,” Budde said. “There are gay, lesbian, transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.”

Pertaining to illegal immigrants, Budde called for empathy, claiming that most “immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors.”

In his post on Wednesday morning, Trump rebutted Budde’s criticism by highlighting that illegal immigrants have committed violent crimes and homicides after entering the country. This would include criminal acts such as the murder of Laken Riley. However, Trump did not mention her in his post, instead choosing to bring awareness to the fact that illegal immigrants have murdered innocent people after entering the country.

“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people,” Trump said. “Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one.”

The president concluded his post by claiming that Budde owed “the public” an apology for her sermon.

“She is not very good at her job!” Trump said. “She and her church owe the public an apology!”
