Former President Donald Trump celebrated his birthday early with a cake from Republican lawmakers in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

Trump was on Capitol Hill for the first time since leaving office in 2021. While he met with those in the GOP concerning policy issues, the lawmakers took time for cake in anticipation of his birthday on Friday.

The candles on the cake had the numbers 45 and 47, in reference to Trump being the 45th president and his current run to be the 47th. As the candles were ablaze, the soon-to-be birthday boy asked for a knife, jokingly referencing a superstition that a birthday cake wish only comes true if the cake is cut.

“Let me make a wish,” Trump told the room after a round of applause. “And I can’t say what the wish is, but it’ll have something to do with this room.”

Friday will be Trump’s 78th birthday. His opponent, incumbent President Joe Biden, is now the oldest sitting president at 81. If Biden wins, he will be 86 at the end of his second term.

Trump’s visit to the nation’s capital included a closed-door meeting surrounding his 2025 agenda, should he be elected. During the meeting, the presidential candidate discussed abortion, immigration, foreign aid, and taxes.
