Cabrini, the film based on the true story of Catholic missionary Francesca Cabrini, is projected to earn $7.5 million at the domestic box office this weekend, marking another feather in the hat of Angel Studios.
The film, which was released to 2,840 screens across North America, has been well received by both critics and audiences, earning a 90% rating from movie review website Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” rating from audiences, according to CinemaScore. The release of the film comes as Angel Studios has become a more recognized studio in Hollywood, with its biggest film, Sound of Freedom, releasing just last year.
“With a weekend crowded by massive franchise releases, this independent film about a woman who became a saint is beloved by audiences and critics alike, and we are confident that this film will continue to grow for weeks to come,” said Brandon Purdie, the head of theatrical distribution at Angel Studios.
Cabrini tells the true story of Francesca Cabrini, an immigrant from Italy who traveled to New York City in 1889 to convince the mayor to provide housing and healthcare to those in need. The film is directed by Alejandro Monteverde, the same director of Sound of Freedom.

Ahead of Cabrini’s release, iconic musician Andrea Bocelli and his daughter, Virginia, partnered with Angel Studios to release the duet “Dare To Be,” which plays during the end credits of the film. Ryan Svendsen, head of music for Angel Studios, told the Washington Examiner that the song” captures the spirit of Francesca Cabrini,” as she spent her life “bringing light and hope to those who were living on the margins.”

Angel Studios has slowly made a name for itself in the entertainment industry, as Sound of Freedom became perhaps the biggest box office surprise last year with a global haul of over $250 million. On the small screen, Angel Studios is best known for its work on The Chosen television show, a drama series about the life of Jesus Christ that recently finished its fourth season.
Sound of Freedom, which details the true story of former Department of Homeland Security agent Tim Ballard quitting his job to combat child sex slavery, was awarded the Faith and Freedom Award for Movies at the 2024 Movieguide Awards. The film was also nominated for the ceremony’s Best Movie for Mature Audiences award.
