Singer Maren Morris told her fans amid Pride Month that she is now bisexual.
“Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+,” she said in her Instagram post on Sunday. “Happy pride.”
In her social media message, she added photos of her show in Phoenix, where she is seen performing and waving pride flags along with her band in front of the audience.
The “My Church” singer’s announcement follows her filing for divorce in October 2023 from her country singer-songwriter husband Ryan Hurd after five years of marriage. The couple had a son together in March 2020. Her former husband has written multiple hits for Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. Morris and Hurd have written songs together for years, making them a country music powerhouse couple.
She had decided to step away from country music as a genre after she said that she couldn’t “participate in the really toxic arms of this institution anymore.” In a podcast last fall, Morris claimed the country music genre failed to help “people on the margins” or “anyone that is not, you know, white male.”
Morris has been vocal about LGBT issues, including a public spat with country singer Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany, regarding the issue of gender transitions for children. Aldean’s wife wrote in an Instagram post in August 2022 that she thanked her parents for “not changing” her gender because she went through a tomboy phase.
Morris chimed in, slamming Aldean for her gender comments, and made a dig about the Jan. 6 riot.

“It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie,” Morris wrote.
“It’s exhausting. But there’s a very insidious culture of people feeling very comfortable being transphobic and homophobic and racist, and that they can wrap it in a joke and no one will ever call them out for it,” Morris said of the argument to the Los Angeles Times in September 2022.
