Former President Donald Trump claimed his meeting with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) on Sunday was “great” and that he is “very happy” to have the Florida governor’s support.

Trump and DeSantis met privately on Sunday in the Sunshine State, the Washington Examiner previously reported. The meeting was arranged by a “mutual friend,” according to the former president, who shared details about the conversation in a post on Truth Social on Monday.

“I am very happy to have the full and enthusiastic support of Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida. We had a great meeting yesterday, arranged by mutual friend Steve Witkoff, at his beautiful Shell Bay Club in Hollywood, Florida,” Trump posted.

“The conversation mostly concerned how we would work closely together to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Also discussed was the future of Florida, which is FANTASTIC! I greatly appreciate Ron’s support in taking back our Country from the Worst President in the History of the United States. November 5th is a BIG DAY!!!” he added.

The two have had a frosty relationship in recent years after reports circulated DeSantis was eyeing a presidential bid in 2024. Trump would label him “Ron DeSanctimonious” ahead of declaring his own 2024 presidential bid in November 2022, and the two openly traded jabs after DeSantis entered the primary in May 2023.

DeSantis dropped out of the presidential primary after coming in a distant second in the Iowa caucuses in January, endorsing Trump and acknowledging that the former president was en route to winning the GOP nomination. Since endorsing Trump, DeSantis had remained mostly mum on the former president, but earlier this month, it was reported that he told donors he would fundraise for Trump’s presidential bid.

Florida, a traditional battleground state, has moved to the right in recent years, with DeSantis and other statewide GOP candidates winning in landslide proportions in the 2022 elections, but President Joe Biden’s campaign has said it wants to make a play for the Sunshine State. The state is rated as “likely Republican” by the Cook Political Report.

The Washington Examiner reached out to DeSantis’s office for comment on the meeting with Trump.
