Jeffries is expected to begin speaking at 11:30 a.m. from Capitol Hill.
The House Democratic leader’s news conference comes a day after the lower chamber of Congress passed the Laken Riley Act with the support of all Republicans and 48 Democrats. The bill would allow federal law enforcement to detain illegal immigrants who have committed theft-related crimes. The legislation will now head to the Senate for consideration.
