Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R-TX) accused President Joe Biden of getting in the way of his state’s attempt to secure the border.
Patrick appeared on the Ingraham Angle on Thursday to respond to the Supreme Court’s ruling that said the federal government has the constitutional power to remove barbed wire on the state’s territory along the Texas-Mexico border. This ruling came as a result of the Department of Justice suing the Texas government for its various tactics to keep immigrants from illegally entering the United States. According to Patrick, the state’s tactics have been effective.
“Let me tell you what: We’re doing the job. If Joe Biden would get out of our way, we’ll do the job. We’ll secure the border. We don’t need them,” Patrick said, referencing a potential conflict between Texas National Guardsmen and Border Patrol agents. “It’s Joe Biden that wants to come in and split us apart. He wants this conflict. For what reason?”
While Border Patrol has been instructed to take down the barbed-wire fences, the Texas National Guard is continuing to install more fences.

“They have no reason to be there. They’ve got 1,200 miles to cover. We’re doing the job. They’re trying to make this a fight,” Patrick went on. “We’re trying to protect our border; we’re trying to protect American lives and Texas lives. That’s what we’re trying to do. And he’s trying to turn into a political battle and turn into a fight with our state. Well, don’t mess with Texas.”
U.S. Customs and Border Protection processed more than 302,000 people at the U.S.-Mexico border in December alone. This is in addition to the over 10 million immigrants who have reportedly entered the country illegally since Biden took office. It is the most recorded immigrant crossings in that amount of time of any administration.
