Transporting immigrants en mass using trailers has become a favored tactic of human smugglers — there have been numerous apprehensions of the practice over the past several years. Immigrants are crowded in tractor-trailers by the hundreds, usually without air conditioning or water.

The practice often leads to tragedy, such as in 2022 when 53 immigrants were found dead after being locked in a trailer in San Antonio.
