Vice President Kamala Harris warned Sunday there could be “consequences” for Israel if it invades Rafah.
“Let me tell you something: I have studied the maps. There’s nowhere for those folks to go,” Harris said. When asked if there would be consequences from the U.S. if an invasion happens, she said, “We’re going to take it one step at a time” and that she was “ruling out nothing.”
Harris’s warning against Israel’s planned invasion of the southern Gaza city came during an interview that aired on ABC’s This Week.
Palestinians have traversed to the southern portion of Gaza by the thousands due to fighting in the north, which is why Harris and other Biden administration figures are cautioning against a full-scale invasion in the south.
“We have been clear in multiple conversations and in every way that any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake,” Harris told ABC.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nonetheless has said he’s approved a plan to invade Rafah, and a delegation from Israel is expected to visit Washington next week to discuss the situation with U.S. leaders hoping to change their minds.
“President Biden has been very clear that a major ground operation in Rafah would be a mistake and something that we can’t support,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday while in Egypt.
