Vice President JD Vance issued a rebuke for the protesters demonstrating on behalf of Ukraine on his street.
Vance is fresh from a testy exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House. As Zelensky offered criticism to Vance and President Donald Trump amid the presence of press, Vance called Zelensky “disrespectful.” As a result, protesters donned Ukrainian flags and posters that read “JD F U,” “Just Don’t,” “Support Ukraine,” and “Zelensky is a war hero,” among other sayings. The protesters descended near the vice presidential residence in Washington, D.C.
“Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of ‘Slava Ukraini’ protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared,” Vance wrote on X Saturday, using the Ukrainian phrase “Glory to Ukraine. “I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed.) It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a s*** person.”
Video of Vance’s interaction with protesters circulated online. These protesters interrupted and talked over Vance as he explained he “condemned the invasion.” The vice president remained calm and referred to protesters as “ma’am.”

During his meeting in Washington, D.C., Vance criticized Zelensky for not thanking the U.S. for contributing financially to their effort more than any other country. Then-President Joe Biden assured Ukraine another $425 million in aid in October, bringing the total given by the U.S. to $59 billion.
Ukraine just passed its third-year anniversary since Russia invaded and war broke out. Ever since, countries have sanctioned Russia in support of Ukraine, but Trump suggested that “Europe has spent more money buying Russian Oil and Gas than they have spent on defending Ukraine —BY FAR,” even despite the price cap on Russian energy.
