Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and political strategist James Carville appear to strongly disagree over how to advance the Democratic Party, with the New Yorker congresswoman firing back at Carville’s argument that “the message is too feminine.”

Carville, 79, was asked by New York Times opinion columnist Maureen Dowd about the culture of the party and how it could be affecting President Joe Biden’s support among voters, especially men. “A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females,” he said.

“‘Don’t drink beer, don’t watch football, don’t eat hamburgers, this is not good for you,’” he mocked. “The message is too feminine: ‘Everything you’re doing is destroying the planet. You’ve got to eat your peas.’”

“If you listen to Democratic elites … the whole talk is about how women, and women of color, are going to decide this election. I’m like: ‘Well, 48 percent of the people that vote are males. Do you mind if they have some consideration?’” he added.

Ocasio-Cortez gave a simple response on Sunday, making a quip on social media about males. “Maybe he should start a podcast about it,” she wrote. “I hear men are really underrepresented in that space.”

In his interview, Carville signaled that Biden’s age is a real concern ahead of November, and he compared him with former President Donald Trump. “Now don’t tell me that Biden has more energy or cognition than Trump because it’s evident that, yeah, Trump’s got word salads, but he projects energy,” Carville said.

“He’s insane. He’s a criminal of the first order. But he does have a little timing and a little sense of humor and knows how to move from one story to the other,” he added.

Carville did heap some praise onto Biden, calling him “tenacious” and “demonstrably the best president that black America’s ever had.”

Carville is credited for helping Bill Clinton win the presidency in 1992 as his lead strategist. He has worked with other prominent Democrats vying for the Oval Office over the years, such as Hillary Clinton, and become a household name in the party, dubbed the Ragin’ Cajun.
