President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of the coming presidential election, where he faces a rematch against former President Donald Trump, during a national organizing call with former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
The virtual campaign event, shared on Saturday, centered on the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act — commonly known as “Obamacare” — with all three warning that under another Trump presidency, the legislation could be in danger of being repealed. Biden tied together the Affordable Care Act and abortion to proclaim that healthcare is “at stake” in November.
“Send me a Democratic Congress and Kamala [Harris], and I will make sure Roe v Wade becomes a law of the land again. I can go on, but the bottom line, healthcare is at stake in this election. And I’m confident when we make the case, we will win,” Biden said.
Pelosi also stressed that the Affordable Care Act was “on the ballot” and discussed how Trump and Republicans would seek to repeal the law.
“The fate of the ACA is on the ballot this year. This isn’t the first time we’ve had to fight for our healthcare. During his first term, Trump was just one vote away from repeal,” Pelosi said. “But because we held 10,000 grassroots events across the country where people and families told their powerful stories, how ACA saved their lives, we prevailed, and the ACA still stays strong.”
“We have no choice. We must win this election,” she later added.
Republicans have largely moved away from talk of repealing Obamacare since the 2010s, but reforming policies in the healthcare field has still been an issue for both sides of the aisle.
Obama, who signed the Affordable Care Act into law in 2010, also used the law as a rallying cry for supporters to go and vote for another Biden term in November.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the ACA. It’s why we do the work. It’s why we run for office, to make a difference in the lives of people who we were elected to serve. And nobody knows that better than Joe,” Obama said.

“That’s why he made it a priority to strengthen and build on the ACA. And because he has more Americans covered than under any other presidents, including when I was in office, now we have a chance to do even more,” Obama said. “But that only happens if we send Joe and Kamala back to the White House in November. So we got to keep working. And let’s remember who we’re fighting for.”
Recent polls have shown Biden trailing Trump in most key swing states. The president has also trailed his Republican opponent in most recent national polls as well, in stark contrast to his polling position four years ago.
