Rep. James Comer (R-KY) suggested that President Joe Biden has a “China first, America last” mentality for many of his actions, suspecting the president’s alleged business dealings with China have contributed to this.

Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, discussed the impeachment hearing that the House of Representatives is hosting on Wednesday, which will further delve into the president’s alleged financial involvement in other countries. Comer cited China as the biggest enemy the United States faces, adding that this is a belief with which even Democrats would agree.

“Joe Biden is not tough on China,” Comer said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “In fact, I would go further. He has a China first, America last policy on a lot of things. Is this because his family took $8 million from China?”

The Oversight Committee has been investigating Hunter Biden, the president’s son, and whether he used his father’s political influence to leverage his financial ventures overseas. Comer cited how Patrick Ho, a former business associate of Hunter Biden and the former head of an organization backed by CEFC China Energy, was sentenced in 2019 to three years in prison on charges of international bribery and money laundering, claiming that Ho paid the president’s son $1 million to be his lawyer.

“The Chinese, are they holding things over Joe Biden’s head?” Comer added. “This is serious, serious national security concerns that we have. We found that Joe Biden hasn’t been truthful about meeting with these people affiliated with the Chinese communist party that were paying his family millions of dollars, and we think that America’s on the wrong path with respect to China policy, so our committee’s going to delve into that.”

Comer revealed in a letter published Friday that he still plans to hold an impeachment inquiry hearing on Wednesday even though Hunter Biden declined an invitation to appear as a witness. The Kentucky representative also invited three of Biden’s former business associates, Jason Galanis, Devon Archer, and Tony Bobulinski, to appear as witnesses at the hearing, though it is unclear whether they will all attend.

The subject of impeaching the president over his potential financial involvement overseas could prove difficult for the Republican Party, as House Republicans only have a razor-thin majority. On top of this, very few House Republicans have expressed enthusiasm for the idea of impeaching Biden.
