A judge denied first son Hunter Biden’s motions to dismiss the tax charges against him, clearing the way for his trial in June.

Biden had filed eight motions to dismiss the indictment, with some using the reasoning that he was selectively prosecuted and that special counsel David Weiss was unlawfully appointed to his position. Judge Mark Scarsi heard his argument last week but appeared unconvinced.

“There doesn’t seem to be any evidence” that pressure from Republicans “influenced the prosecutors’ decision other than the timeline,” Scarsi said at the hearing last week.

Scarsi elaborated on his reasoning in an extensive 82-page filing released on Monday.

“The Court concludes that Special Counsel Weiss is lawfully funded through the indefinite appropriation, and the Appropriations Clause has not been violated,” he wrote in the filing, regarding the motion to dismiss Weiss on the grounds that he was unlawfully appointed.

A jury trial in the case is set to begin on June 20. Biden has pleaded not guilty to all nine charges against him.
