Independent voters, who are expected to determine the outcome of the presidential election, believe former President Donald Trump is better than President Joe Biden on a majority of campaign and national matters.
In a new survey, independent voters said they prefer Trump’s handling of 11 of 15 matters, including those typically commanded by Democrats, including Israel policy and guns.
Most surprisingly, they are split 29%-29% over who “would be better” on abortion, the No. 1 matter Democrats plan to use in the fall election.
The YouGov poll was seen by Team Trump as the latest indicator he is leading in the race.
“You are right, President Trump’s lead among independents is the key to winning,” a key Trump campaign official said.
With the exception of issues considered far left, such as LGBT policy, Trump was the leader in the eyes of independents, the survey analysis said.

“Independents say Biden would be better than Trump at handling healthcare (35% vs. 29%), the environment (35% vs. 23%), and LGBTQ issues (31% vs. 19%). They think Trump would handle nearly all of the remaining issues better than Biden would, including the economy (47% vs. 26%), China (46% vs. 21%), immigration (45% vs. 21%), inflation (42% vs. 23%) and foreign policy (41% vs. 25%),” the analysis said.
The survey was followed by a Gallup poll on Monday that showed a slight edge for Trump in the U.S. global position among independents.
