Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) criticized President Joe Biden for a recently released campaign ad, which features veterans slamming former President Donald Trump.
Biden was in Normandy, France, over the last week for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, during which his personal X account posted the ad online. Vance, a veteran himself, described the soldiers who stormed the Normandy beaches as part of “the greatest generation,” and criticized Biden for trying to destroy “everything they fought for.”
“I was with Donald Trump on D-Day in both public and private,” Vance said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “He talked constantly about how much he admired those who served, especially in that generation, but all generations. Here’s the crazy thing, Maria, ask the greatest generation what they feel about wide-open borders. Ask the greatest generations what they feel about sex changes for minors. The fact that Joe Biden is covering himself in glory of the very people who fought for something that he’s trying to destroy is disgraceful, and I hope Americans reject it this November.”
About the 2024 presidential race, Vance argued that Trump supporters are very enthusiastic about supporting the former president even after his recent hush money trial verdict. Vance contended that the trial was an attempt by the Democrats to distract voters “from their own failure,” which voters recognize.
The senator added that “basic issues” are driving the election this year, which include border security, rising housing costs, energy costs, and protection from drug cartels. He noted that many voters will be heading to the polls this year knowing what four years of both Trump and Biden were like, and predicted that many prefer the four years under Trump’s leadership.

Vance is one of several candidates who is rumored to be on Trump’s vice presidential candidate short list, with one report stating that he was one of several to receive “vetting materials” for the position. When asked about this report, Vance said he has not spoken directly to Trump about being vice president, though stressed the importance that Trump becomes president again.
Other candidates who received these vetting materials for vice president were Govs. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) Tim Scott (R-SC), Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and former Trump administration official Dr. Ben Carson.
