Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) was harsh in his latest assessment of President Joe Biden, saying he was moving so far to the political left as to risk his reelection.
Manchin, after flirting with a third-party presidential run for months, recently decided against it. The decision hasn’t stopped his commentary on the election, however, as he has continued to ramp up his criticism of Biden. Speaking at Politico’s Health Care Summit, Manchin carried on with his theme of slamming Biden for being “pushed” to the left, warning that it could cost Democrats the presidential election in November.
“Biden, I’ve known him for an awful long time, a good person,” Manchin said, adding that he was a friend. “He has been pushed so far left it’s unbelievable. And I have been raising hell from day one. Because I’m trying to say — this is not how you’re going to get reelected.”
“You won’t get reelected over here,” he continued, motioning to the left. “Be the Joe Biden we thought we elected. Come back here,” he said, motioning to the middle.
Manchin clarified that everything he is telling the audience he’s told Biden in private.

He said that he and Biden “talk” but wouldn’t clarify how often or when the last time they spoke was.
Manchin has spent much of the past year criticizing Biden for drifting more progressive, largely regarding his stances on immigration and the environment. The West Virginia Democrat maintains that he won’t vote for former President Donald Trump but hasn’t decided on whether to endorse Biden.
