The campaign for former President Donald Trump said it raised an eye-popping $52.8 million through online donations following Trump’s guilty conviction in his criminal hush money case.

On Friday morning, a little more than 12 hours after the verdict was announced, the campaign announced it had fundraised $34.8 million. The claim from the campaign cannot be verified until the Federal Election Commission releases its report on fundraising numbers.

“The Trump campaign has raised $52.8 million through the online digital fundraising platform,” a statement from the campaign said. “THAT’S MORE THAN $2 MILLION PER HOUR!”

Besides closing the significant fundraising gap President Joe Biden’s campaign had put between itself and the Trump team, nearly one-third of the donors gave to the campaign for the first time. Those new donors can now be turned into repeat donors once Trump’s team has their contact information.

“With more than one third of these donors being new to the campaign, it is clear that more and more Americans are seeing through the Biden election interference and joining President Trump in the movement to save our nation,” the statement said.

If the campaign’s figures are accurate, the guilty verdict led to easily the most successful 24-hour fundraising period either candidate has experienced this cycle. The $52 million figure would mean Trump raised more money on Thursday night through Friday than in the last six months of 2023 combined.

After Trump was arraigned in Georgia for his indictment there, he fundraised $4 million after his mug shot was released in 2023. Thursday, Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

“This momentum is just getting started,” top campaign advisers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivitasaid in a joint statement.

The fundraising haul may have closed the lead Biden had on Trump. Cash on hand has consistently been an advantage for Biden. Entering May, his campaign had $84 million to Trump’s $49 million.
