Former President Donald Trump appeared to pre-spin a conviction in his hush money trial, contending even “Mother Teresa could not beat those charges.”

Trump’s comments come as the jury in the six-week trial starts its deliberations regarding the 34 counts of falsifying business records brought against the former president by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“Mother Teresa could not beat those charges. The whole thing is rigged. The charges are rigged,” Trump told reporters Wednesday. “Mother Teresa could not beat these charges, but we’ll see.”

Trump took the opportunity outside the courthouse to criticize New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the matter. Trump accused Merchan of being corrupt and of mistreating defense witness Bob Costello, who once acted as the lawyer for Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen, a prosecution witness. He complained that Merchan had prevented Brad Smith, a campaign finance expert, from testifying, though that is not correct.

“The judge is so conflicted that he can’t breathe,” Trump said. “This judge contributed to Joe Biden and far worse than that, but I’m not allowed to talk about it because of a gag order.”

“It’ll be talked about, but I’m not allowed to talk about it,” he added.

Trump also scrutinized Biden, his Democratic rival in the 2024 election, but asserted the president is not “smart enough” to have conspired against him.

“He’s destroying our country,” Trump said. “He’s letting millions of people from jails, from prisons, from insane asylums, from mental institutions, drug dealers, pour in.”

“We’re gonna win this election,” he continued. “Nov. 5 is going to be the most important day in the history of our country. We’re going to take back our country from these fascists and these thugs that are destroying us with inflation, and with everything they do.”

Trump, too, took aim at Robert De Niro after the actor was part of a Biden campaign press conference outside the courthouse this week.

“They [had] a protest with Robert De Niro yesterday. He’s a fool, he’s a broken-down fool standing out there. He got MAGA-ed. He got MAGA-ed yesterday. A big dose of it,” Trump said.

The jury of 12 people comprises seven men and five women, with two attorneys in the group.

Prosecutors allege that Trump tried to cover up payments made through Cohen to porn star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding an extramarital affair the pair had in 2006 before the 2016 election.
