A large number of Indian Americans are slotted to attend the Diwali event. The Hindu festival is also called “the festival of lights” and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists worldwide.

“Continuing a tradition from previous years, the President will light a Diya lamp in the Blue Room before his remarks,” a White House spokesperson said. The lamp is meant to symbolize the inner light and wisdom that triumph over darkness.
