Kentucky residents will start to see benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in eight days.
Food stamps are issued to eligible residents in Kentucky between Feb. 1 and Feb. 19. Payments are sent out to recipients on odd days based on the last digits of their case numbers.
Kentucky residents must meet certain income and household requirements to qualify for SNAP. A household of one can receive a maximum of $291, a household of five can receive a maximum of $1,155, and a household of eight can receive up to $1,751. A household can receive a maximum of $219 for each additional person.
SNAP benefits are distributed to low-income families and individuals through an electronic benefits transfer card, which can be used at participating grocery and convenience stores. Kentuckians can use their SNAP EBT cards to purchase meat, poultry and fish products, dairy items, breads and cereals, and other eligible groceries. Products such as pet food, alcohol, and household items like paper and soap can’t be purchased using SNAP benefits.

Approximately 541,600 residents, or 12% of Kentucky’s population, receive food stamps in the state, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
