Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sued New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday in the hope of obtaining approximately 180 documents related to a sexual harassment investigation into him.
The former governor claimed he needed the documents in order to defend himself in two harassment lawsuits that came out of the investigation. The documents contain memos from interviews in the investigation.
Cuomo has repeatedly denied the allegations that he sexually harassed at least 11 women, and no criminal charges have been brought against him.
“Every single piece of information that has come out over the last two years has done nothing but undermine Tish James’ sham report and – after publicly stating that ‘evidence will be made available to the public,’ she’s done everything she can to hide these documents from taxpayers,” Cuomo’s spokesman Rich Azzopardi told the Daily Mail.
He continued, “This was a political hit job from the beginning to pave the way for Tish’s failed campaign for governor and it’s sad that the courts are needed to step in and order the state’s top lawyer to stop violating the law.”
The investigation and allegations devastated Cuomo’s career, leading to his resignation amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He also faced scrutiny following allegations that his COVID-19 policies killed thousands in nursing homes.

Cuomo is now facing sexual harassment lawsuits filed by a former aide and a state trooper. The lawsuits were filed through the Adult Survivors Act, which is a time-sensitive law that allowed victims of sexual abuse to file civil lawsuits against their alleged perpetrators long after the statute of limitations had expired.
The Adult Survivors Act also brought sexual harassment allegations against actor Jamie Foxx and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
