Ex-CNN anchor Don Lemon argued Monday night that Vice President Kamala Harris needs to reintroduce herself to the public if she wants to win the election and said many voters are not familiar with her.

Lemon released a series of videos on X this month in which he interviewed voters in battleground states about who they plan to vote for and why they are voting. In these videos, many people stated they would be voting for former President Donald Trump over Harris. Some stated that the economy was better under Trump, and others were critical of Harris, with one person calling her “phony and fake.”

“And it sort of depended on where you were,” Lemon said on MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki. “Pennsylvania, well, I shouldn’t say Pennsylvania, I should say Philadelphia, was a bit more liberal, and the answers to the questions about her and him were quite different. But for the most part, in Pittsburgh or at the Jersey Shore in Atlantic City, in Ohio especially, many people didn’t know who she was, right? They weren’t familiar with her, so I think she has to reintroduce herself to the public.”

In regards to all the support he saw for Trump, Lemon suggested the voters he spoke to believed he was better for the economy and that he brought money to the black community. Lemon was referring to the COVID-19 stimulus checks that were provided to voters during the Trump administration, and said he had to remind these voters that these stimulus checks came from a Democratic Congress and Trump wanted his name on the checks.

Lemon contended that this move by Trump was “good marketing” by the former president, as it gave voters the impression that the checks came “directly from Donald Trump.”

In one of the videos Lemon posted, the former CNN anchor interviewed a number of black men to ask who they were voting for, with one of the interviewees suggesting voters believe the stimulus checks actually came from Trump himself. Another person Lemon spoke to, who said he was voting for Trump, stated black voters are taking the time to consider “who’s going to benefit me more.”

Recent polling data has indicated that Trump’s support among black voters has doubled since 2020, with his support in August 2024 among this voting bloc at 21%. Harris still far outpaces the former president among black voters, however, as she had 72% in this poll that had a 1-percentage margin of error.

The vice president has yet to conduct a press interview with anyone since joining the presidential race in mid-July, though her campaign has stated she will conduct at least one interview by Saturday. Among those who have offered to interview her include billionaire and X owner Elon Musk, sports journalist Stephen A. Smith, and late-night host Bill Maher.
