Another high-level official in New York Mayor Eric Adams’s administration resigned on Tuesday as a federal investigation into the mayor and his staff grows.
Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, wife of ex-New York City Public Schools Chancellor David Banks, who also resigned amid the investigation, did not disclose the reason for her resignation. However, last month, federal officials searched her house and confiscated her electronics.
Wright’s resignation comes just one day after Deputy Mayor Philip Banks III announced his resignation and weeks after Adams was charged with bribery and wire fraud.
Maria Torres-Springer, deputy mayor for housing, economic development, and workforce, will replace Wright.
Mohamed Bahi, a former community affairs liaison for the Adams administration who also resigned on Monday, was arrested and charged on Tuesday with witness tampering and destroying evidence in connection with the Adams investigation.
Bahi allegedly told a businessman and campaign donors to lie to the FBI and deleted an encrypted messaging app from his phone as investigators were executing a search warrant.

Other high-level members of the Adams administration who have resigned, been fired, or announced their intentions to leave include senior adviser Tim Pearson, police commissioner Edward Caban, director of Asian affairs Winnie Greco, international affairs aide Rana Abbasova, and City Hall chief counsel Lisa Zornberg.
Adams has pleaded not guilty and maintained his innocence after being accused of accepting approximately $100,000 worth of free or discounted flights, hotel stays, meals, and entertainment and seeking illegal campaign contributions from foreign interests.
