Actor James Woods took to Twitter on Sunday to air his grievances about a report that 9/11 planner Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — along with four of his co-conspirators — could be on the verge of a plea deal with U.S. military prosecutors.

Woods took issue with the idea that the terrorists behind such devastating homeland attacks could possibly work out any deals at all — but he also noted the added insult of the information being reported on the twenty-first anniversary of the attacks.

“To see this headline on September 11 is appealing,” Woods said in a tweet that has since been deleted. “Why is justice such an elusive concept in America today? Will the heinous among us never be held accountable? This is an outrage, and to read about it on this sacred day is an insult to the fallen.”

According to the report, the five defendants — Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Ramzi Binalshibh, Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, Walid bin Attash, and Ammar al-Baluchi — have been negotiating a deal to get the death penalty off the table. They have reportedly agreed to enter guilty pleas in exchange for that concession as well as for treatment for the abuse they claim to have endured at the hands of American CIA officers.

All five of the defendants in question were held and interrogated by the CIA prior to their arrival at the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba — and critics, as well as the defendants and their attorneys, have asserted that their treatment at the hands of the CIA amounted to “illegal torture.”

In conjunction with their alleged efforts to plan and coordinate the devastating attacks that were executed on September 11, 2001, the five men were charged with crimes including terrorism, hijacking and 2,976 counts of murder.

Woods was hardly the only person to take issue with the report and its timing.

“This had better be an erroneous report. The only deal these scum* should get is a promise of a quick death, instead of slow and painful,” @irishspy tweeted. “*(And I apologize to scum everywhere for the comparison.)”

“The Biden Admin doesn’t always negotiate with terrorists who murdered thousands of innocents, but when they do — they do it on the Anniversary of #September11,” A.C. Spollen added.

“This had better be ‘we’ll give you lethal injection instead of dropping a building on you,’” Mark Passwaters suggested.
