Three people are dead after a small plane crashed into a row of townhomes in Fairview, Oregon, on Saturday.
Earlier, officials said three people were unaccounted for when the plane crashed into a townhome, causing a significant fire. This total included two people who were on board the plane and one person who was a resident.
At around 10:30 a.m. local time, a twin-engine Cessna 421C crashed three minutes after taking off from Troutdale Airport, a small airport located in Multnomah County primarily used for flight training and as a relief airport for Portland International Airport.
Video posted to social media shows one townhome engulfed in flames, with large plumes of smoke coming from the adjacent home.
According to John Plock, a public information officer at the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the plane first hit a pole, which caused debris to scatter. Shortly after, the plane crashed into the homes.
“The plane hit a power pole and so the impact of that appears to have caused some of the plane pieces to come off so, like I said, there’s really kind of two crash areas, so to speak, and debris kind of all around,” he said.
