Lauren Miller, who made headlines for leaving Texas in order to obtain an abortion, joined with Texas Democrats to urge Texans to vote against Republicans in November.
In a press call organized by the Texas Democratic Party, Miller bashed former President Donald Trump and Republicans, saying they wanted to turn the country into a “nightmare.”
“If we allow Donald Trump to reach the White House this November, he will make this nightmare a reality nationwide, he will have the opportunity to appoint more extremist Supreme Court justices to cement this rollback of rights for the rest of our lives,” Miller said.
The Texas resident declared that Republicans decided that women seeking abortions “need to be more killable.”
“None of this would be possible without Donald Trump,” she continued. “He is responsible for the devastating choices families like mine had to make, the hurdles we had to jump through to save our lives. Donald Trump and Texas Republicans want to punish women. Just last Friday, the all-Republican Texas Supreme Court took another step in attacking women’s rights in Texas, and Texas Republicans have voted on a party platform that, if enacted into law, could literally sentence women like me to death for obtaining life-saving care.”
The platform Miller referred to would strip abortion providers of protections preventing them from being charged with murder, which could lead to them being charged with capital murder, punishable in many cases by the death penalty. The platform does not mention any punishments for women who obtain abortions.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa said that abortion access could be taken away by “Donald Trump and his MAGA minions.”

“Texas Republicans have repeatedly shown who they are. They are a group of MAGA extremists hell-bent on stripping away women’s rights, and all of their talk of being the party of freedom is hogwash,” he said. “Our message to voters is this, Texas Democrats are the party of freedom. Joe Biden is a candidate who will protect fundamental freedoms in the States.”
Answering a question from the Washington Examiner, Hinojosa said that abortion would play a central part in Texas Democrats’ 2024 election strategy.
