Fact Check: Did Elvis Steal ‘Hound Dog’ from a Black Woman?

Just because Joy Reid is no longer at MSNBC doesn’t mean the controversial host isn’t still going viral. The question is, is she going viral over a factual claim?

Reid, a former anchor with network soon to be known as MS NOW, said during an interview with writer and podcaster Wajahat Ali that “white people can’t invent anything” and that “mediocre white men” appropriate from black people — including Elvis Presley, who she said stole one of his signature hits.

The two, according to Fox News, were talking about President Donald Trump and his administration reviewing wokeness inside the Smithsonian Institution during an episode published Friday.
