Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy expressed his excitement about launching a campaign for office to “save this country.”

President Donald Trump named Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Ramaswamy the volunteer heads of the Department of Government Efficiency. While they are not government officials, it is their job to create “a lean team of small-government crusaders” to work closely with the White House Office of Management and Budget. Ramaswamy has since bowed out of the group and is speculated to launch a gubernatorial campaign in Ohio soon.

“I’m proud the play the role that I did in helping to get [DOGE] off the ground,” Ramaswamy said Monday on Fox News’s Hannity. “The conclusion that we all came to that was my focus on constitutional law on driving change for legislation, elected office was the right place from which to do it. So saving this country, I think it’s going to be a team effort. Donald Trump is doing his part at the best from the very top. But if we’re going to save this country, it’s going to be bottom-up as well. That’s why I’m drawn to my next chapter and have more to say about that pretty soon.”

Ramaswamy has long teased his gubernatorial run but has yet to launch a campaign. Host Sean Hannity cited a poll showing him with 52% support before his bid has begun.

The first major candidate to announce a 2026 run is Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. The Republican is polling at 18% according to the Fabrizio, Lee & Associates poll reported by Hannity.
