Bill Maher is creating a new podcast network to promote “authenticity from unfiltered celebrity voices.”
“My lifelong goal has been to get the kind of conversation we have in life — utterly real,
completely authentic, cleaned up for no one — on the air,” Maher said.
The comedian added, “I went with that as far as I could on television. Andrew Sullivan once said, ‘He gets the conversation we have in the green room on the show.’ But I knew there was still another level to get to, and a nighttime feel that was missing in podcasts, and that’s why I started Club Random.”
The first podcast to launch on Maher’s new venture will be by former ESPN anchor Sage Steele, who will host The Stage Steele Show. Steele’s first episode launched Wednesday and featured Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White. She plans to feature interviews with other celebrity guests, including Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, and Jillian Michaels.
“She’s the perfect choice to be our first new host because, like me, she pissed off Disney. There’s a certain poetic symmetry to that,” Maher said of the choice of Steele.
In addition to Steele, the HBO host has Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan hosting his own Club Random podcast. Corgan has been vocal about his free-market Libertarian views and previously criticized social justice warriors.
Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst will also be on the network hosting a show about UFOs and conspiracy theories.

“Dance like no one’s watching? We talk like no one can cancel us,” Maher said in a statement about his podcast network.
The podcast network is a collaboration between Maher and Hollywood producers Chris Case and Chuck LaBella.
