Donald Trump Jr. harshly criticized Republican lawmakers for what he sees as their failure to fight against their Democratic counterparts, arguing that they talk about taking action against Democrats and rarely ever do.

Trump Jr. said many Republican lawmakers appear on television and threaten to subpoena Democratic lawmakers just to ultimately not follow up on those threats. He explained that this feature among most Republicans is what separates them from Democrats, claiming that lawmakers on the Left will use the power they have.

“You’re telling your base, the people who are watching, ‘you’re fighting,’ but you know damn well that you’re not actually fighting, and we see that so much,” Trump Jr. said on The Tucker Carlson Show. “That’s the difference between the Democrats. I mean they’ve shown, they’ll put their opposition in jail, they’ll smother them, they’ll silence them, there’s nothing they won’t do to preserve power.”

Trump Jr. added that as long as there is this “imbalance” between the two parties, there will be no change in the political climate.

The interview Trump Jr. spoke in was uploaded on Friday, a day after his father, former President Donald Trump, was found guilty of all 34 charges in his hush money trial in Manhattan. The ruling makes Trump the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a felony crime.

Trump Jr. shared a clip of his interview on X, where he criticized “RINOs,” an acronym standing for “Republican In Name Only,” for responding to “Democrat tyranny with strongly worded letters.” He called for conservatives to stand up and combat the Democratic Party by fighting “fire with fire.”

In the wake of Trump’s verdict, a conservative faction of Republican senators promised to place more hurdles in front of President Joe Biden and Democratic priorities to serve as retribution. The joint letter, led by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), stated that “those who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable,” alleging without proof that Biden had something to do with Trump’s court case.
