Former first lady Hillary Clinton reacted to the news of actress Margot Robbie and Barbie director Greta Gerwig getting snubbed by the Oscars for their box-office hit film.

“Greta and Margot, while it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold, your millions of fans love you. You’re so much more than Kenough,” Clinton said in a post on X to her 6 million followers, adding the hashtag #HillaryBarbie.

Many Barbie fans were surprised on Tuesday when the popular film was left out of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences categories for best director and best actress. However, actor Ryan Gosling received a nomination for best supporting actor, and co-star America Ferrera garnered a best supporting actress nomination.

Gosling expressed disappointment about the snubs of his co-stars.

“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” the actor said in a statement. “And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”

The Barbie co-star continued, “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”

Social media users responded to the former 2016 Democratic presidential candidate’s message.

“Sorry Hillary, the popular vote doesn’t win Oscars either,” one person said.

“Margot really should’ve visited Wisconsin,” another person said in response to her post.

“This is so cringe,” another person responded.

“I dunno if feminism needs the approval of someone whose Ken was on Epstein’s speed dial,” one woman said in response to the social media message.

“It’s literally been 8 years and she’s still a sore loser,” a social media user said to her post.

Barbie was released on the big screen in July 2023 and collected $1.4 billion worldwide in box office sales.
