A 15-year-old girl allegedly involved in a brutal beating of another teenage girl has been arrested, the St. Louis County Police Department in Missouri confirmed Sunday. The unnamed juvenile faces assault charges and is being held in the St. Louis Family Court.
The fight was captured on video and went viral on social media over the weekend. The clip shows a violent confrontation on Friday in which a teenage girl is seen repeatedly slamming the head of another teenage girl on concrete near Hazelwood East High School in Hazelwood, a suburb of St. Louis. Multiple students are seen in the video breaking out into fights as the injured teenage girl on the ground is left convulsing.
While the police have not released the identities of the teenagers involved in the incident, the victim is reportedly hospitalized in critical condition with a severe head injury.
Local news reports have described the violent fights as a common occurrence that has been happening for decades near the school.
“New Reports coming in says that the brutal fights involving students in @HazelwoodSD have been going on for years according neighbors. The school administrators must be held accountable,” a social media user said.
The Hazelwood School District made a statement about the incident, saying, “It is a tragedy anytime children are hurt. Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children. The Hazelwood School District offers our sincerest condolences to everyone involved, and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need.”
A social media user slammed the school district for their comment of “condolences to everyone.”
“No @HazelwoodSD, not EVERYONE involved deserves condolences. The girl who got her head bashed in deserves condolences. Not the bystanders who didn’t help and sure as hell on the psycho who did this. Do better,” a social media user said in response.
The school district added in the statement, “We look forward to continuing to partner with our community for the sake of our children. Please be kind and respectful of the families involved during this difficult time and pledge to help work toward the betterment of our entire community.”
Social media reactions have also suggested that the fight is a part of the unfair media coverage of violent attacks.
“This is a local news story. If the races were reversed, it would be on the front page of the New York Times,” conservative commentator Ben Shapiro said.
“Multiple people watch and do nothing. You won’t hear about this story on the MSM,” Chaya Raichik at the Libs of TikTok social media account said.
The brutal beatings of students rapidly increased at the end of 2023, with shockingly horrific incidents captured on video.
In Parkland, Florida, in December, five teenagers were involved in the pummeling of a student, and one student slammed him down head-first on the concrete, fracturing his skull, and his body was seen unresponsive as they mocked him lying on the ground.
In Las Vegas in November, a student died from a mob of teenagers stomping on his head and causing blunt force trauma to his body.
In Lawrence, Massachusetts, a student was beaten so badly that they were convulsing on the ground.
