Pope Francis will bring a group of world-famous comedians to the Vatican on Friday, June 14.

The names of the invited American comedians include Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien, Chris Rock, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Other comedians from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Italy will be in attendance.

The event is being organized by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education and Dicastery for Communication. The pope will host more than 100 entertainers in the Apostolic Palace in the hope of creating “a moment of meaningful intercultural dialogue and sharing of joy and hope.”

During Wednesday’s episode of The View, Goldberg previewed her visit.

“Pope Francis, as you may or may not know, has invited a bunch of funny people from all over the world to celebrate the beauty of human diversity and to recognize the significant impact that the art of comedy has on the world of contemporary culture, so I’m heading to the Vatican today,” she said.

In previous media interviews, the pope has said he daily prays a prayer from St. Thomas More that says, “Grant me, O Lord, a sense of good humor. Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke to discover in life a bit of joy, and to be able to share it with others.”

The Vatican hopes this event will “establish a link” between the Catholic Church and the comedy stars.
