Republicans are headed toward controlling the House for another term, securing 214 seats so far, per the Associated Press. They need 218 to control. Democrats have won 203, and 18 have yet to be called as of Monday morning.
The NRCC is the campaigning committee for the GOP and works to raise money to elect Republicans to Congress. Hudson was first elected as chairman in 2022.
POTENTIAL PICKS FOR PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP’S CABINET
The seasoned House Republican wrote in a “Dear Colleague” letter that they “were clear-eyed about our liabilities and opportunities, we developed a game plan, and we executed it with your buy-in and support.”
If reelected as NRCC chairman, Hudson will have to face what will probably be challenging 2026 midterm elections. Trends show that the party in power in the White House typically loses seats in the midterm elections. In 2018, Republicans hemorrhaged House seats two years into President-elect Donald Trump’s first presidential term under the leadership of former Ohio Republican Rep. Steve Stivers.
But if Democrats can’t figure out their messaging to working-class voters, a problem they lamented after Trump’s victory, Republicans could build their lead in the House. Hudson will hope they can do so, even though he thinks Democrats will unload money toward the next midterm.
“History tells us that midterm elections for the party that controls the White House are challenging. We know Democrats will do anything to win. In 2024, they spent $554 million to spread lies about our Members — in this midterm they will spend even more,” he wrote.
“Without a steady hand and seasoned leadership at the NRCC, Democrats could steal this majority and spend the final two years of President Trump’s term bogging down his agenda with sham investigations and impeachments. We cannot let that happen,” he added.
He has already seen public support from Republicans who were successful in their own reelection bids last week, including Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who scored a double-digit victory in California’s 48th District.
From the start, my friend and our great NRCC Chairman @RepRichHudson was indefatigable in raising the resources, recruiting the candidates, and crisscrossing the country to keep and grow our majority.
He is a winner. And he has my full support for another term as NRCC Chair.

Other candidates for the NRCC role were Reps. Rudy Yakym (R-IN) and Kat Cammack (R-FL), but Hudson will be considered the favorite for the role.

Other Republicans looking for a leadership position could look toward Rep. Elise Stefanik’s (R-NY) position as House Republican Conference chairwoman. She recently accepted a position with the Trump administration as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and will thus vacate her leadership role.
House Republicans will hold leadership elections on Nov. 13.
