Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) deflected a question on whether she will run for reelection to her seat in November, saying she is going to remain focused on her current work in Congress.

Sinema, who left the Democratic Party in December 2022, has yet to officially say if she will run for another term to represent the Grand Canyon State. When asked on CBS News’s Face the Nation if she plans to run for a second term in the Senate, Sinema answered by saying the “endless questions” about elections are “really exhausting.”

“Well, I understand you have to ask that question, Margaret. But I think folks across Arizona and the country know that when I decide I’m going to work on something that’s important for our state and for our nation, I stay focused on it,” Sinema said.

“And I think that the endless questions about politics and elections are really exhausting. And it’s what makes Americans really hate politics,” Sinema added. “So what I’ve committed to my constituents is to stay laser-focused on the policy on actually solving real problems. And that’s what I’ve shown that I do and the work that I do in the United States Senate.”

Sinema has not filed her statement of interest to run in November with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office and must collect 42,303 signatures by April 4 to appear on the ballot as an independent.

If Sinema does run for reelection and gathers the necessary signatures to qualify for the ballot, she would likely face off in a three-person race between the Democratic and Republican candidates. The current frontrunners in the race for the general election include Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and former 2022 Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, a Republican.
