UFC fighter Julian Erosa criticized transgender swimmer Lia Thomas for competing in women’s sports, stating that he does not like “cheaters.”
Erosa was answering questions from the press after winning his fight against Ricardo Ramos on Saturday night when he was asked who he would like to fight in the future. Erosa initially said he wanted to fight someone who is “not a fighter,” but when pressed on the question, he revealed he wanted to compete against Thomas in the women’s MMA.
“That’s what I wanted to say, ’cause it’s all about getting a little bit of shock value,” Erosa said. “But the world that we’re living in, there’s no common sense anymore, and it’s becoming a bit ridiculous, and you know, obviously, that’s one of the big things that’s kind of going on now.”

When asked if there was any instance in which a transgender woman could compete against women, Erosa said, “Absolutely not.”
“And I think we’re in a, obviously, a grey area, but these grey areas are stupid to me cause it’s common sense,” Erosa said. “I’m not the smartest crayon in the box, but I can tell you, if I don’t know anything about anything, I could still tell you that’s unfair, in my opinion. People are going to have their opinions and say what they want, but it’s just something I strongly believe in.”

Erosa’s comments drew the praise of women’s sports activist Riley Gaines, who shared the footage of the UFC’s interview on X.
Gaines, who rose to fame after competing against Thomas in the 2022 NCAA Championships, was joined by 15 collegiate athletes who sued the NCAA on Thursday, with the lawsuit also listing several universities as the defendants. The lawsuit claims that the NCAA “aligned with the most radical elements of the so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda on college campuses.”
