Since his departure from the White House, former President Donald Trump has held a pronounced political presence from the sidelines, flexing his clout as a kingmaker to steer the GOP with his enviable stamp of approval.
Throughout the primaries, Trump touted a roughly 92% success record with his endorsements and crowed about it from time to time on the campaign trail. With his strong pull within conservative circles well known, Trump’s stamp of approval was put to the general election test Tuesday night.
“I had such great success on Endorsements, perhaps success like no one has had before, both for Republican Nominations and the General Election itself, and I continue to get Fake News, RINO, and Radical Left criticism, but seldom congratulations or praise. That’s the way it is, and that’s the way it will always be,” Trump bemoaned on his Truth Social platform Friday.
So far, Trump appears on track for a roughly 90% success rate with his general election picks, having eked out 230 victories and 26 losses with about 12 races outstanding. This is based on the Washington Examiner’s tally of 268 endorsements.
Trump’s team has claimed in a newsletter that the former president has backed over 330 candidates this election cycle. For the Washington Examiner’s general election tally, candidates who lost their primaries were omitted, and the list focuses on those who were endorsed in newsletters from the Save America PAC or in an internal Trump endorsement tracking list. It does not include candidates who were only endorsed verbally.
