A New York judge had a stern warning Friday for Rudy Giuliani, who was a no-show for a hearing in his divorce case last month.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Katz was aghast at how Giuliani managed to miss the prior hearing and appeared to levy a warning that the former New York City Mayor could be arrested.

“A sheriff is on notice to come at a moment’s notice today,” Katz warned, per the New York Post. “This is a very serious matter.”

“Let me apologize for not appearing,” Giuliani said during an appearance Friday, per the report. “It was very stupid. I made a mistake.”

Last month, Giuliani skipped a hearing intended to sort out the amount of money he owes his ex-wife Judith. She filed a lawsuit claiming that he was behind on payments for their divorce settlement.

Due to his absence, Katz held Giuliani in contempt of court and ordered him to pony up $235,000 by Oct. 7 or else he could face jail time. Katz reportedly moved to lift the contempt of court ruling against him in the matter on Friday.

The Friday hearing was a follow-up to the September one. Katz voiced his bewilderment at how the former mayor forgot the court date.

“You repeated the date to me, so you knew about it,” Katz said bemusedly, per the New York Post. “I said everyone needed to be here on the 23rd and you repeated it to me. I don’t understand your excuse.”

“I put it down the wrong way when I left the courthouse,” Giuliani replied.

Giuliani also presented documents he claims back up his contention that Judith overstated the sum he owes her. She claimed he had $225,000 outstanding and Katz previously added $10,000 to that sum to account for attorney fees.

“Am I tired of it? Why do you think I’m divorced,” Giuliani quipped to reporters outside the court Friday.

Katz agreed to set a new court date in addition to lifting the contempt order against Giuliani, the New York Post reported.

Giuliani and his ex-wife split after 15 years of marriage in 2018. They bitterly fought against each other in court over their vast $30 million fortune before reaching a settlement in 2019. Under the agreement, Giuliani was supposed to pay her $5,000 a month to cover expenses for a housekeeper and assistant as well as $200,000 for a property they owned, the Daily Mail reported

He previously missed a court hearing in a separate case involving the Fulton County, Georgia, 2020 election investigation and cited a heart stent procedure in July as the reason for missing it. Giuliani is also battling a lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems claiming he defamed the company by peddling election fraud claims.
