An activist from an organization that promotes abortion access said terminating her pregnancy “was an act of self-love” during an appearance in front of the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.
Sarah Lopez, a “storyteller” from We Testify, described abortion as “healthcare” and said her abortion “was the best decision I’ve ever made,” according to the Daily Mail.
“I am here today to make sure that everybody who currently needs an abortion, who has had an abortion, or will need an abortion is not alone, no matter what the state tries to force up on us,” Lopez said at a hearing on the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Lopez’s profile on We Testify’s website indicates it has been almost five years since her abortion and that she remains unapologetic for getting one. She also regularly organized travel for women to New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C., to get abortions after Texas passed its fetal heartbeat abortion ban in 2021, Lopez told the Nation.
The Right condemned her testimony on social media, with some saying many women who get abortions regret doing so later in life.
These people are demonic.
“My abortion was the best decision I ever made. It was an act of self love.”
Who in their right mind could even say that?

We’ll see if she is saying this in any number of years from now. So many–too many women–go to their death bed in regret about their abortions. Yet the abortion movement, including so-called abortion advocates like Sarah Lopez, ignore the stories of THOSE women. https://t.co/hivldteafr

Alito was joined by Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, while Chief Justice John Roberts concurred in his own opinion.
